The Algarve is known for its beaches, mild climate, and natural landscapes.
However, this southern region of Portugal also has a rich agricultural tradition, particularly in the
production of dried fruits and nuts.

These fruits have been part of the Algarve’s rural landscape for centuries and are widely used in the region’s traditional gastronomy.
The trees that produce these fruits—the almond tree, the carob tree, and the fig tree—adapt very well to the warm and dry climate of the Algarve. Therefore, it is common to find them in countryside fields, orchards, and rural areas.
Besides being nutritious and tasty foods, these fruits are also used in many traditional Algarvian sweets, which are an integral part of the region’s culture and identity.
